Hey there! We are back at it again with another Rad or Bad, where where I endeavour to figure out whether or not new trends hitting the nail world are in fact radical (and everyone should go out and use them) or just plain bad (meaning stay away for your own sake). Today I want to talk about a new trend hitting the market, which is regular polishes that claim to give you a gel manicure without needing a UV light. Under the microscope this week is the Rimmel Super Gel polish.
Pretty much all of the drugstore brands are jumping on this not gel, kind of gel polish bandwagon, however I am yet to encounter one that lives up to this promise. Today I want to talk about Rimmel Super Gel, which I have in the color ‘Rock n Roll’ which is part of their collaboration with Kate Moss. I have used this a few times and have had similar experiences with each mani. The color goes on smoothly and evenly in just two coats, then you set it with the top coat. I have found that this polish and the top coat dry much faster than any of my other polishes, and I have never had it smudge which is amazing!
The negatives are that it doesn’t last the full 14 days as promised and that when it chips, it is super obvious because of how glossy the polish becomes when you apply the top coat. Despite not lasting as long as the polish says it will, it does last much longer than regular polishes, for me it lasts between 5-7 days which is pretty impressive as I am notoriously bad at chipping my nail polish! Plus, unless I have committed to a shellac manicure, I usually get bored with my manicure after 5 or 6 days anyway so am ready to change it by the time it starts chipping.
This polish comes in 15 amazing shades, some of which are part of their collaboration with Kate Moss. I think this polish is a great buy, especially if you get the starter pack that includes a color and the topcoat for a discounted price. Currently this product is not available in the US, hopefully they bring it across soon! I bought mine in Priceline in Australia, where the polish on it’s own is available for $9.95 AUD and the set with both the topcoat and a polish is $14.95 AUD.
Overall I rate this product as RAD, even though it doesn’t last the full 14 days, I love the color and consistency so will definitely be reaching for it again. Also, there are 14 more shades in the collection and I am so tempted to buy more, simply because of the easy and quick application and how glossy it looks.
Let me know if you have any of these Rimmel polishes and which shades are your favorite!
