Turkey Day is nearly here and that means the traditional ‘Holiday Season’ is upon us! Thanksgiving is a day where we can look and reflect on what we are thankful for, spend time with family and friends and, of course, have a delicious turkey dinner! Like with any holiday, you want to look your best and your nails are no exception. Today, we want to reflect on the history of the holiday before we give you an idea of what our nails will look like this Thanksgiving!
In case any of you need a little refresher of your American History – Thanksgiving Day is a public holiday celebrated each year on the fourth Thursday of November. Originating as the Harvest Festival, it is now celebrated each year in the U.S as the start of the holiday season. Back in 1620, Pilgrims landed on American soil, settling in Plymouth (just south of what we now know as Boston). Unbeknownst to the Pilgrims, they had settled into the start of what would be a tough winter, with hard times and tight rations. When springtime came, the Pilgrims were taught how to plant their own crops and hunt for food by a Native American named Squanto, meaning they were able to store up enough food to keep themselves equipped for the next winter. The Pilgrims invited the Native Americans to join them for a huge harvest feast as a way of saying thanks, which has since become known as Thanksgiving!
This year has been a busy one for the Pedicure Team, but we all have some wonderful things to be thankful for. I am thankful for my family and friends as this year has been one where I have been lucky enough to spend a lot of quality time with the people who mean the most to me and I look forward to continuing that into the New Year.
The Pedicure Team’s idea of perfect Thanksgiving nails are a classy & sleek manicure in the classic Autumn/Thanksgiving colors of dark red, purple and deep orange. If you want to try a classic dark red-purple manicure, we love Essie ‘Wicked’ or Tom Ford ‘Smoke Red’. The ultimate orange for Thanksgiving is appropriately named Zoya ‘Autumn’. If you want to mix it up a bit, we love the idea of a Thanksgiving Ombre Manicure with a dusty pink base and a red glitter. To create this gorgeous look, try using Kokie ‘Crème Brule’ with CoverGirl Outlast ‘Rogue Red’. The ombre glitter is easy to achieve by using the dry brush technique over your chosen base color. Simply scrape off most of the glitter polish back into the bottle and run the brush across your nails, from your cuticle down toward the end of your nail to create a gorgeous ombre effect.
So will you be rocking our Perfect Thanksgiving Manicure? Or will you be rocking the ombre glitter look? Let us know by commenting below! But most of all, have a happy and safe Thanksgiving!
