Shellac manicures are amazing in so many ways, they provide you with chip-free, glossy manicures for two or more weeks. Sounds dreamy right? But if you are unlucky enough to mark your manicure, with a pen or a marker, it can ruin that dream manicure. Today we are going to teach you a few ways to remove stains from your shellac, so that you can keep it going for the full two weeks (or more if you’re lucky!)
- Nail Polish Remover- if you spot the mark quick enough and have nail polish remover close by, use a q-tip to lightly wipe the stain to remove it. Be sure to lightly dab the q-tip in circular motions to remove the stain. If that stain won’t budge, stop wiping and try another one of our tips. Don’t use too much nail polish remover, as this could damage your shellac even more than the stain!
- Hairspray- Place your hand on a towel, or a surface that can be easily wiped down. Use a q-tip or cotton ball to remove the excess ink/stain. Now spray your finger with hairspray until it looks wet from the spray. Use a q-tip to wipe the stain and the hairspray off, it should all wipe off quite easily! Now wash your hands with soap, use double the amount you normally would, and wash everywhere the hairspray touched- your hands, nails and skin around the nail- to make sure you remove any excess hairspray. Voila, your mani looks good as new!
- Tea Tree Oil- fill a bowl with water and add some tea tree oil. Soak the stained nail in the mixture for at least 5 minutes, then wash your hands and moisturise. You may need to repeat this once a day, for a few days.
- If all else fails, a trip to the salon can save your shellac! If you explain to your manicurist what has happened, they can remove the one nail of shellac that has a stain and redo it. Depending on your salon, this could be free or you may have to pay a small amount.
