New York Fashion Week Nails S/S 2015 Round Up

If you listen very carefully in New York, you will hear sighs of relief coming from countless designers, stylists, make-up artists, editors, bloggers, you name it, as they take kick off their stilettos and take a minute to breathe after another successful New York Fashion Week.

There is no doubt that the team at Morgan Taylor ruled the runway with almost a dozen shows led by celebrity manicurists Gina Edwards and Danielle Candido.

To commemorate designer Carmen Marc Valvo’s 25th silver anniversary, Gina Edwards created a chic dark, matte-finished nail using Morgan Taylor’s ‘Little Black Dress’, then topped it with ‘Matte’s A Wrap’ top coat, and finished off with a thin strip of shimmery silver, ‘Oh Snap, It’s Silver’.

For Sally LaPointe the Morgan Taylor team went back to basics, with Danielle Candido mixing Morgan Taylor’s ‘Something To Blog About’, a metallic purple and ‘Scene Queen’, a beige shimmer to create a sophisticated look that matched the designers neoprene and sheer fabrics.

Chris Gelinas S/S 2015 line incorporated soft shades of pinks and creams that were offset by tribal prints on flowing silks and jacquards. Makeup was futuristic with pink tribal stripes and painted pink and white brows and lashes. Morgan Taylor’s Gina Edwards mimicked the models make-up by creating a reverse French manicure using ‘New School Nude’ as the base and a straight edge of ‘I’m Charmed’ at the cuticle. ‘I’m Charmed’ was finished with Morgan Taylor’s ‘Mattes A Wrap’ top coat with the remaining nail being topped with ‘Make It Last’, a beautiful high-shine top coat.

Gina Edwards created a crisp antique white nail as the understated accessory to Herve Leger’s silver-studded signature bandage dresses complete with graphic cut outs. Edwards used one coat of milky white Morgan Taylor in ‘Heaven Sent’ and added a layer of sheer beige polish ‘In The Nude’.

In true outlandish Betsey Johnson style, Danielle Candido for Morgan Taylor developed a multidimensional blue and silver-hued, crystal-embellished bridal manicure. A layered nail that included Morgan Taylor’s ‘Oh Snap It’s Silver’, topped with a coat of sheer cream ‘In The Nude’ followed by another layer of ‘Oh Snap It’s Silver’ and finished with ‘Bronzed & Beautiful’ lightly sponged over top. Candido then applied loose foil, pearlescent embellishments to complete the look. If that wasn’t enough, vibrant baby blue ‘Varsity Jacket’ was applied to the underside of the nail tips. Let’s not forget the models footsies, their toes were shimmering in ‘Adorned In Diamonds’.

It wasn’t all glitz and glamor being created by the Morgan Taylor team, Gina Edwards designed a glistening, prismatic nail look for Thakoon. Starting with one coat of sheer pink shimmer ‘Sugar Fix’, two coats of ‘Make It Last’ and finishing off with top-coat ‘Need For Speed’ giving the models a high-gloss and fresh look.

Thakoon wasn’t the only minimalist nails seen on the runway, Diane Von Furstenberg’s models were polished to perfection with Essie ‘Allure’ complementing her animal prints and dark beading. DKNY went with cream-colored Essie ‘Limo-scene’, followed with a coat of Essie  pink ‘Mademoiselle’ to give a soft look against DKNY’s bright pastel designs. Minimalistic looks didn’t stop there, Thyskens Theory sent their models down the runway with Deborah Lippmann nude nails.

Kate Spade also went with a classic, modernist look, with Deborah Lippmann’s white polish – ‘Amazing Grace’ serving as the base coat, and then topped off with a thin line of ‘Fade To Black’ strategically applied with a striping brush.

The pedicure.com team is all about matching lip and nail color and it seems Zac Posen had the same idea. His models wore matching orange red lip and nail color, with manicurist Keri Blair applying 2 coats of MAC Studio Lacquer in ‘Shirelle’ to finish the simplistic yet bold look.

The CND team took nail design to another level for edgy The Blonds show, where every look had a distinct over-the-top nail style. Each model had their own handcrafted nail look and dramatic embellishments with CND Liquid & Powder and BRISA Gel. Layers of high-shine color were then applied using CND SHELLAC brand 14+ day nail color and VINYLUX Weekly Polish in saturated tones with accents of gold throughout. 3D looks with created with filigrees, oversized gold chains, medallions, tassels, lace, porcelain and over ten thousand stones, gems and jewels. It’s no wonder these designs took over 500 hours to create. It was by far the most impressive nail art we have seen on the runways.

To complement Desigual bold and bright designs, manicurist Keri Blair wanted the models nails to look like an “overstuffed bouquet in soft focus”. The base coat was white and then she sponged eight different MAC Studio Lacquer pastel polishes for a watercolor effect. So gorgeous.

Finally we loved Ann Yee’s Spring 2015 presentation that featured bold and linear nail designs by Inni. Sharp colbalt blue and white striped Inni nail wraps looked hot against the models two-toned lips.

We are exhausted just thinking about all of the work that went into creating these fabulous nail looks during NYFW. It’s not over yet, manicurists get but a moment to relax with fashion season in full swing. Next stop London Fashion Week.
